Hey Reader!
Here’s what I keep coming back to about the centurion.
He never asked for proof.
We do. Constantly. We tell God we’ll take the step as soon as the path is clear. We’ll give as soon as the margin shows up. We’ll have the conversation as soon as we’re sure how it’ll land. We’ll say yes as soon as yes feels safe.
And I understand it. If I’m honest, I’ve prayed that prayer more times than I want to admit.
But watch what the centurion does. He doesn’t wait for a sign. He doesn’t negotiate. He looks at Jesus and says, essentially: I know how authority works. Say it and it’s done.
That’s faith. Not the assent of an opinion. The pledge of a heart.
Because here’s the thing — the demons believe in God. James says so plainly. Belief was never the finish line. What the demons don’t have is allegiance.
So let me put the question to you the way chapter one puts it:
What would your life look like if you stopped waiting for an obvious sign before you took the obvious step?
You probably already know what the step is. You’ve known for a while.
Take it.
